The Lazy Person's Guide to Summarizing YouTube Videos
I love YouTube. But I hate the "YouTube Algorithm Game." You know the one. "Hey guys, welcome back to the channel! Before we start, smash that like button, buy my merch, and listen to my life story." JUST TELL ME HOW TO FIX MY SINK.
I refuse to watch 10 minutes of fluff for 30 seconds of content. So I use Eyesme Extension to skip to the good part.
Here is my lazy man's workflow.
Step 1: Install the Thing
Go to the Chrome Store. Click "Add to Chrome." If that's too hard for you, I can't help you.
Step 2: Open the Video
Go to YouTube. Find that video that looks promising but is suspiciously 10:01 long (just to hit the ad revenue mark).
Step 3: The Magic Button
You don't even have to click anything. Eyesme pops up in the sidebar. It automatically generates a summary. "This video is about fixing a leaky faucet. The key step is replacing the washer." Boom. I already know more than I did 5 seconds ago.
Step 4: The Interrogation
This is where it gets fun. I don't just read the summary. I ask questions.
- "What size wrench do I need?"
- "Does he mention turning off the water main?" (Crucial step, by the way).
- "Show me the timestamp where he actually unscrews the handle."
Step 5: Close the Tab
I got the info. I didn't watch the ads. I didn't smash the like button. I fixed my sink.
Why This is Better Than Skimming
Skimming is risky. You might miss the one sentence that says "Don't cut the red wire." Eyesme reads the entire transcript. It doesn't miss anything.
So stop wasting your life on intros and outros. Get Eyesme. Be lazy. Be efficient.
